University Governance Overview Council is the University’s governing body, charged under the University Act with "control and management of the University". The Chancellor is the titular and ceremonial head of the University, and Chair of Council. Council delegates authority to the Vice-Chancellor to be the University’s Chief Executive Officer, and to oversee the educational and administrative affairs of the University. The Vice-Chancellor leads University strategic planning on behalf of Council. At the University level, a Strategic Directions Statement provides overall guidance, while detailed Strategic Development Plans contain strategies and targets for the major themes outlined in the Strategic Directions Statement. Each Division and unit produces plans which detail how the University strategies are implemented within the Division or unit. The Strategic Planning & Quality unit provides administrative support for the University planning framework and quality review. Responsibility for implementing the University’s strategic objectives and for overseeing the administrative affairs of the University is further delegated from the Vice-Chancellor to other senior managers, such as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Divisional Deputy Vice-Chancellors, and the heads of the academic Schools and Institutes, and the corporate Departments. Responsibility for the formation and implementation of academic policy and procedures, and the accreditation of courses is delegated to academic bodies, such as the Academic Board, Board of Technical Studies, Academic Assembly at Lilydale and School Boards (see link below).
