General course description
Swinburne’s Professional Certificates in Information and Communication Technologies have been designed for current IT professionals seeking continuing and professional education. This program provides current IT professionals with the credentialed educational opportunities to support their career development. In particular, Swinburne’s Professional Certificates in ICT provide current IT professionals who are lacking the time to undertake a full postgraduate qualification the opportunity to undertake a more focused university program relevant to their interests over a shorter period of time.
The Professional Certificate study program consists of two postgraduate-level units. Completion of the Professional Certificate provides credit into Swinburne’s range of graduate certificate, graduate diploma and master programs in Information Technology, Information Systems Management and Network Systems.
Swinburne’s Professional Certificate programs aim to provide students with the knowledge and skills required to meet the needs and requirements of the current and future IT professional.

Software engineers must continually strive to acquire new skills in conjunction with the rapid changes in computer technology. The Professional Certificate in Software Testing offers advanced studies in software tools and testing. This program examines a mix of fundamentals (software engineering activities and tools) and practical hands-on knowledge in software tools. A combination of tools breadth and depth approach will be used, covering the most important tools for testing and software configuration management.

Networking Concepts
Students who successfully complete the Professional Certificate in Networking Concepts will be able to use the OSI model to describe direct point-to-point data communications, describe basic inter-network processes, conduct basic network audits, explain the function of network management tools, build a simple network of hosts, cables, switches, and routers and troubleshoot typical physical problems in a small network. Students will also be able to install and configure CISCO switches and routers in multiprotocol internetworks, using LAN and WAN interfaces. Furthermore, students will have developed the knowledge and skills needed to provide level 1 troubleshooting service, improve network performance and security as well as perform entry level tasks in the planning, design, installation, operation and troubleshooting of Ethernet and TCP/IP Networks.

The Professional Certificate in Information Systems Governance and Management addresses information systems and their impact on business environments. Admission requirement
The normal requirement for admission to the Professional Certificate is a bachelors degree in an ICT discipline.
The Professional Certificate also provides an entry point for applicants who do not hold a degree but have at least three years relevant industry experience demonstrating potential to undertake work at this level.
Program structure
Students undertake a total of 25 credit points consisting of two postgraduate units of study, each of 12.5 credit points.
Program length
Individual students – One semester or the equivalent for part-time studies.
Corporate clients – Program length can be customised to meet the needs and requirements
of your organisation.
Location
Hawthorn campus. Flexible delivery options are available for
corporate clients including on-site and off-site delivery.
