Help is on the way: Support for individuals, couples and families in the community

Q.  Are you afraid that you will be criticised by other people or fear that you will do something to humiliate or embarrass yourself in the following situations?

  • Public speaking
  • Initating and/or maintaining conversations
  • Speaking to authority figures
  • Attending parties, dating and other social events
  • Eating in public

A.  If the above applies to you, then you many benefit from completing the Social Anxiety Group.

People who are socially anxious may experience physical symptoms of anxiety including blushing, sweating, trembling, confused thoughts, muscular tension, and stomach problem and even panic attacks in social situations. Although people recognise their reactions to a social situation as excessive and extreme, they can't seem to do anything about them.  Expereincing Social Anxiety is more than being shy.

The social anxiety group 4-8 people with similar feelings, thoughts and problems work together to develop new ways of managing social anxiety. Group members benefit from receiving support from others who share their experience, and by being able to practice new skills to manage anxiety within the context of the group. Over the course of a group people learn practical skills, gain insight into their anxiety and often experience a sense of acceptance and belonging within the group. 


Program Details
The Social Anxiety group program is an 8-session group program which offers a cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) approach to dealing with social anxiety. Sessions are run on a weekly basis and the group is facilitated by two of the Psychology Clinic's counsellors.

Program Fees
There is a $25 assessment fee and a $240 program fee to participate in the Social Anxiety Group. Options are available make pay for the group in up to three installments and this can be done by cash, cheque or credit card.
