Sir Rupert Hamer Post Graduate Scholarship

In recognition of Sir Rupert Hamer's long and distinguished contribution to community affairs and interest in the University, Swinburne University of Technology has established the Sir Rupert Hamer Postgraduate Scholarship as an annual scholarship to assist Swinburne University of Technology postgraduate students fulfil their academic goals.
Value
The value of the scholarship is $5,000, which will be held in trust by the University to offset directly the fees for the postgraduate course in which the recipient is enrolled for 2009. Any outstanding credit will be paid to the recipient upon the successful completion of the postgraduate course.
Eligibility
The scholarship is open to students who meet all of the following criteria:
- Are currently enrolled in a Graduate Diploma or Masters by coursework postgraduate program at Swinburne University of Technology for 2009; and
- Completed the final year of their undergraduate degree at Swinburne University of Technology; and
- Are Australian citizens or have permanent residency status in Australia.
Selection
Selection will be made on the basis of the following criteria:
- Sound academic record
- Evidence of significant and sustained contribution to community affairs. Community service may encompass, amongst other things, any of the following:
- – Local government sponsored voluntary activity;
- – Work for a recognised charitable organisation;
- – Service with such community organisations as Scouts, Girl Guides and other youth organisations;
- – Service through community sponsored sporting activities; and
- – Community service through such schemes as the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
The successful candidate will be chosen by a selection panel comprised of:
- A member of the University's Council;
- The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) or nominated representative;
- The Director Student Operations or nominated representative.
Application
Applications must include details of academic results and the applicant's involvement in community service. A curriculum vitae and statements by two referees related to the applicant's community service activities must accompany the application also.
